8 - 10 October 2025 | Cape Town

Everything Must Change is an annual youth event that brings together high school students from across the city to talk about social justice, education and society, and to encourage inter-school collaboration. More than 100 high school students meet together for a three-day summit. At this summit, students participate in intergenerational dialogues with seasoned community activists and scholar-activists to talk about various social issues such as climate justice, education, anti-racism, anti-ableism, gender justice, and several other local and global concerns. Students also have the opportunity to participate in arts-based workshops where they are able to learn new skills and consider how they can be used to promote social justice.

Why “Everything Must Change”?

We believe that an equitable and socially just social arrangement cannot be achieved within the existing and dominant framework of neoliberal capitalism, where the driving motive is exchange value and profit, and social relations are reorganised around the values of market ideology and competitive individualism. The theme “Everything Must Change” invites us to recognise and analyse the impact of neoliberal and racial-capitalism in society and to reimagine how things might be in the world if replaced with new social forms.
